U Comment I Follow

I’m been following an on-going story from one blog to another of those who are using a plugin that allows search engines to follow the URL entered by commenters on blogs. On most blogs, “nofollow” tags are inserted so as we comment on each other blogs it does nothing for us.

For those of you using WordPress, I suggest grabbing yourself the Dofollow Plugin. You know that if you were commenting on a blog you’d want that to be an extra little link love for you and help boost your page rank. So, return the favor and do so for those who comment for you.

Just so that it’s on the record, the Dofollow plugin took me all of 2 seconds to install and activate. It really couldn’t be more easy. It has changed nothing on my blog but allows for search engines to crawl my site and see your URL. Isn’t that sweet?

What’s fun is that because there is such a limited list of those who are actually using this plugin fellow bloggers that do are starting lists announcing those who are using this plugin. You can even check out this site for cute little images that openly state you follow! I’ll be placing one of these on my sidebar shortly.

In the meantime ask yourself, what are you losing out on by not following? Get yourself the plugin, it just takes a minute and your visitors will love you that much more. . .

So my commenters . . have a little love! U Comment, I follow!

Update: While I still heavily support the do follow movement, I am no longer a do follower blogger. Due to constant abuse, I simply could not keep this plug-in enabled here. Now to get some good lovin’ you’ll need to leave a valuable comment and have my visitors follow you naturally. As an alternative, provide enough valuable comments and become a Top Commentator for some love from my blog!

Anyway, smart move! :D Welcome to the NOFOLLOW movement :P The movement is great, and although I see why they would’ve added it in the first place, it’s easy to figure out that the advantages, at least for bloggers, are far greater than any disadvantages.

Encourages people to actively comment on your blog, and encourages you to actively comment on other people’s blog.

I have been reading a whole lot about the spreading of this. I think I am gonna take a look into it.

I have been looking at other sites to see if they have any bad effects from it but it seems to be working fine.

I’m trying to figure out if my blog(s) are using nofollow so I can disable it, but I use quick blog by Godaddy. I’m still a baby blogger. I’ll figure it out. Thanks for this great info.

I changed the code in my blog to make it DoFollow. Not only did I do that, but whenever someone new visits my blog, I make sure to check out their blog as well. I’ve made some new blogging friends that way.

w3ec » Thank you for letting me know about the spotlight on your search engine. I visited the site and found it interesting. However, a suggestion for you… perhaps with your credit to Courtney and Colleen for starting the list you should also consider giving actual visible credit to Randa Clay for the images you’re displaying on the site.

Kirsten » I do the same thing. But I usually go back along the way and go to blogs who have visited mine. I make it a free time project that way I also have time to comment while I’m there. :D

I think this is a superb idea. I have sent out a couple of comments but for the past 48 hours, nothing appear on my technorati backlinks. Maybe there is a slight delay. if the love link really works, you can count on me to be on the DoFollow list! Cheers!

Kslye » The back links for this go to Google and other search engines. Not Technorati so you won’t see results there. The back links on Technorati needs to come from people placing you in their blogroll or specifically mentioning you in a blog post.

However, it’s this is still a worthy concept as it will help increase back links to you on search engines and increase PageRank.

I use one called NOFOLLOWFREE. It works the same. But it lets me pick some options. It’s pretty nifty.

I have been using the NOFOLLOWFREE plugin as well. If memory serves me correctly, WP 2.5 added the option to follow or not follow without plugin use.

For sites that choose to follow, I highly recommend askimet or some other spam catcher. Also, I’d visit all websites linked in your comments to make sure they’re not ‘bad’ sites. As a website owner, you always want to know what sites your website is pointing at.
