Confession: I’m really not that fond of using the word ‘lesbian.’ There are a lot of words that people hate that I’d rather hear than the word ‘lesbian.’

I’m not sure if it’s the word itself or the idea of putting a label on yet another thing. Somewhere I think I believe that it’s just a word and because of that it doesn’t have to apply to my life.

Reality is that people are always looking to give anything a name to be recognized by and because this is who I am it’s a word that’s in my vocabulary.

I envy gay men. I want the word gay regularly applied to me. Not lesbian.
