Blog Love #4 Personal Blogs
Forever ago, it seems that most blogs started out as personal blogs. And while big businesses started picking up on blogging as a means of promoting news, more and more niche blogs grew to create the blogosphere that we see today.
But for me, the root of it all still lies with those personal bloggers — the ones that share their life.
Maintaining a personal blog I find to be a difficult task. What do you share of your life? What do you hold back on? Are you discussing life lessons and sharing general knowledge about life or are you letting the world into your home?
While I don’t cover personal blogs often, I found today a good day to dedicate a blog love to personal blogging. After all, there is no other type of blog where you’ll quickly feel a connection with the blogger themselves.
Think about it, can you put your world out there — in any fashion?
I tried to blog my life for quite sometime, in fact, I did so right here on I’m Blogging That! When I realized that I found personal blogging too difficult to keep up with on a regular basis, I also realized that I enjoyed blogging about blogging more. For quite awhile I had a personal blog (now up for sale) that I rarely maintained. Sharing just wasn’t exactly for me.
After I wrote my post about our weekend away from blogging and our stay at The Palazzo, I had some comments and a ton of EMail from visitors wishing that I shared more of my “personal life.” I found the assessment fascinating as my blog wasn’t very successful when I was a personal blogger.
I thought, perhaps from time to time I’d write a personal post. That doing so may actually give the frequent visitors a chance to get to know me, understand where I come from, and build a connection between us. But I haven’t picked that up either just because I didn’t want to fail at keeping up something else that is personal.
But, this story changes slightly…
This past November, I attended PostieCon and Blog World Expo back to back while Joanne hung out as full time Mom to Zadey. I had an amazing time and by the time both events ended, Joanne was pumped up to start blogging herself and so, I created a blog. I even mentioned here that Joanne would start blogging.
Time quickly got away from us both after purchasing Joanne’s domain name. She waited in the wings while work pilled on me, I became more busy with custom designs and started blogging more often.
When the time came that I built Joanne’s blog, little by little I gave her the run down on networking, blogging, and using the WordPress dashboard.
This past week, excitement has been running high in our family. Joanne and I have made a huge announcement to our family and friend; an unexpected choice that has caught people off-guard. But we’re excited and it’s changing Joanne’s world. Our choice has inspired Joanne to just take the leap without further information from me and start blogging.
No, I won’t make the announcement here — but, the result of this blog love, while I could reach out to thousands of personal blogs, is to give those who had asked about my personal life, the place to find my personal life. While it won’t be written from my perspective, Joanne is blogging. Which for me, is more fascinating than anything I could put out about our life.
So, without further ado, Joanne is blogging at Two Mommies in Vegas.
If you’re interested in our exciting news or learning more about my life, what are you waiting for? Head on over to Joanne’s blog and read up! While there is just one post there for now, she’ll be blogging regularly about work, parenting, and our home life.

Nifty blog so far. I love the color scheme with the sidebar and was pleasantly surprised that the background didn’t distract too much (BG’s like that usually give me vertigo type headaches)
Good luck you two! :-)

Dennis » I’ll be sure to pass on your compliment. Glad you liked the design too, thanks! :D
Rasterbator » I agree, personal blogs are interesting provided they’re written with a personal tone.

I think for me I like writing about my personal stuff because I think most like to feel connected to someone with a similar story and what have you.
I would love to be a an expert about something and maybe by blogging the way I am currently, that will come out. Right now, I’m just enjoying figuring out about myself.

Personal blogging has always been a release for me. I generally don’t hold back but sometimes I do. It depends on the situation. I journaled offline since I was 10, so blogging is almost natural, just done on a computer via the net. What I like about it the most is it has connected to me many people who seem to say “I’ve been there done that and this is what I did….”
I’m really exicited you two started a personal blog! =0)

My blog site is exactly a combo of what you just discussed — personal and topic-related, although my blog site name suggests more of the latter. I figured that I would find it more difficult to maintain two (2) blog sites catering to both subjects that’s why I settled for just one. Interestingly, I really wanted to blog a long time ago but failed to do so because I was more interested in forum postings and chatting as these enabled me to put my thoughts across more quickly. But access restrictions at work didn’t permit me to chat and join forums thereby enabling me to seek a more manageable format for my thoughts — blogging.
